The Coffee Cowgirl: Brewing Beauty with Every Brushstroke

For Mandurah-based artist Samantha Henworth, however, her medium of choice is something far less conventional yet wonderfully captivating: coffee.

Her journey into art began in the most unexpected of ways. After a serious horse riding accident in late 2024 that required major surgery, Samantha found herself navigating recovery while also caring for her newborn baby. In the quiet hours of the night, with a cold cup of coffee beside her, a spontaneous decision changed everything. “I just dipped the brush in and started painting,” she recalls. That small moment opened the door to an entirely new world.

Requests for her unique works began flowing in almost immediately. What started as a late-night experiment soon grew into The Coffee Cowgirl, a name that now represents Samantha’s thriving art practice. Today, her specialty pieces include delicate portrayals of Australian flora, fauna, and marine life, alongside striking equine and pet portraits.

What makes her story even more remarkable is that Samantha is entirely self-taught. “I never even got A’s in school art,” she admits with a laugh. Horses and sporting pursuits were always her focus, not the studio. Yet her natural flair and eye for detail have carried her further than she ever imagined.

Ten months into her creative journey, Samantha found herself at a crossroads. Extended maternity leave was drawing to a close, and the sensible option would have been returning to work. Instead, she decided to back herself and her art. “I wanted to give it a real red hot crack,” she says.

That leap of faith has been fuelled by unwavering support from her family and friends, who proudly double as her toughest critics. With their encouragement, Samantha continues to explore the endless possibilities of coffee watercolours, one brushstroke at a time.
