Capturing the Heart of the Arena
Raised in the equine world, Charlotte grew up competing in cutting, campdrafting and obstacle events. Horses have been part of her life for as long as she can remember. In 2019, after picking up a professional camera her parents had purchased years earlier, her perspective shifted. What began as casually photographing events she was already attending soon evolved into something far more serious.
Today, Charlotte balances life as a qualified hairdresser with a rapidly growing photography business under her brand, Intense Photography. Most weekends are spent trackside at campdrafts and major equestrian events, capturing the speed, precision and emotion that define the sport. Her long-term vision is clear. She hopes to transition into full-time equine photography and eventually travel for work, immersing herself in different regions and documenting their horse communities.
One of her proudest milestones was being invited back to photograph The Man from Snowy River event. The first time she shot it, she was working with basic equipment and still finding her confidence. Returning as a recognised photographer marked a turning point. It was proof that consistency and belief in her craft were paying off.
Growth for Charlotte has not only been technical. Learning to overcome shyness and bring energy into shoots has been just as important as mastering camera settings. Creating relaxed, genuine moments with clients requires confidence, and she has worked hard to step outside her comfort zone to deliver that experience.
Behind every polished gallery, however, are long hours of editing. Post-production remains one of the most demanding parts of her job. She remembers her first wedding taking two months to deliver while she balanced other commitments. Since then, she has refined her systems, improved turnaround times and strengthened her workflow.
The most rewarding moment is always the first message from a client after receiving their photos. The excitement and gratitude confirm that the effort was worth it.
As a young photographer, Charlotte has occasionally faced discouragement from others in the industry. Her advice to aspiring creatives is simple. Do not let someone else’s opinion limit your ambition. If you love what you do, pursue it wholeheartedly.
She credits her mentor, Andrew Franks of Andrew Frank’s Event Action Photography, for being the first established photographer to offer guidance and encouragement. She is equally grateful to her family, who support her fully and trust her with everything from event coverage to weddings.
Still actively riding and competing, Charlotte understands the split-second timing that defines a winning run. That lived experience allows her to anticipate the moments that matter most.
